How to meditate well, according to your Dosha

Meditation means experiencing the silence between two breaths, which is the space between two thoughts. Finding a quiet spot that is free of distractions allows you to listen to the silence and become aware of your surroundings.

In Ayurveda, your unique body composition, or your Dosha, determines how you should meditate for the best results.

If you’re a Vata, bring in more grounding energy by laying on the floor. You can also cover yourself with a blanket for warmth or use a weighted blanket to provide an even greater sense of groundedness. Place hands palm facing down in lap or on stomach.
If you’re a Pitta, take three deep inhales and exhales to bring stillness into your practice. Don’t worry about finding the best meditation position, but rather focus on what feels good for your body in the moment. Place your hands in your lap with either palms face up or down.
If you’re a Kapha, sit upright with your spine tall, placing your hands in your lap with palms facing up. This allows more stimulating energy to flow in, which can help with possible sluggish or stagnant Kapha energy.

How and when to meditate for the best results

The most auspicious time to meditate is within the Brahma Muhurtha period, which occurs approximately 60 to 90 minutes before sunrise.

According to Ayurvedic science, your mind is at its most calm during this time: meaning any practice performed during this time will have a greater effect than if performed at any other time of the day.

And so, if you aim to meditate daily, timing it with Brahma Muhurtha would be a great idea. If this is not possible, the next best option is any time you need to release tension and negativity and welcome positivity into your being.
